China has had a long period of history. Its people have shared a culture longer than any other group in the world. Despite the fact that dynasties have come and gone, the basic government structure stayed the same for centuries, until the Communist Revolution and take over in 1949.

Despite the fact that foreigners ruled the Chinese, these rulers were absorbed into the Chinese culture. It is like as one "...if the Roman Empire had lasted from the time of the Caesars to the 20th century, and during that time had evolved a cultural system and written language shared by all the peoples of Europe." 

In the 18th century, the Manchus, who conquered the country in 1644 by taking Peking, ruled China. The Manchus set up the Qing Dynasty. In 1911, the Manchu Dynasty ended when a weak republican form of government overturned the dynastic system of government.
