Once you’ve arrived there are the tasks of unpacking and a number of administrative matters like registering the new address.

Moving to a new address is recognized as one of the most stressful occurrences that can happen in someone’s life, the death of a spouse is considered the highest. If you consider just how stressful and complicated moving it can be to move home, and that’s with the help of modern technology. When you consider how difficult it would have been for people to move home throughout history, where there was no cars or lorries to transport goods long distances. Although many dreamed of a possibility, aviation wasn’t a reality until the 19th century, which means that there wouldn’t have been such thing as a freight forwarding company, and it would have been very difficult to move to another country.
Reasons
It can be easy to wonder why anybody would want to move home with all the stress and complications it can cause. But the fact of the matter is that people move home for a wide range of reasons, including needing a bigger house due to having a bigger family than when they first moved into their existing property. People may also move for better job prospects that may be waiting for them somewhere else. Of all the modern reasons that people may move home, these may be the main two that applied throughout the 18th century. The fact of the matter is because moving house and home was very difficult it was something that people seldom did unless they absolutely had to. Careers were perhaps the foremost reason for moving home, with many companies arranging for their employees to move elsewhere in the country, and if they didn’t move, they’d no longer hand a job. If the new home was quite far away compared to their existing home, in many cases it was easier for people to sell their existing possessions, or leave them behind, and then getting new belongings once they’d settled in the new home
